Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Spiritual Counseling?
Spiritual Counseling is an empowering mind, body, spirit approach that supports the healing, integration, and awakening of the whole person. It is a safe and therapeutic space where you can share vulnerably and be met wherever you are without fear of judgment. In this space of deep sharing and listening, a connection can be with your inner knowing. From that place of connection, what is needed for clarity or healing can be revealed. Many tools and techniques are available to help with what has been revealed.
What are some of the tools and techniques that are used?
A combination of many techniques that are in my “tool box” can be used in sessions. These can include: mindfulness and meditation techniques, Emotional Freedom Technique (E.F.T.), emotional regulation, breathing, guided imagery, mind/body awareness, shadow work (working with the subconscious), inner child recovery, and soul retrieval.
How is it different from Traditional Counseling or Pastoral Counseling?
Spiritual Counseling is not the same thing as traditional counseling or cognitive behavior therapy. I am an ordained counselor. I am not a licensed mental health counselor, doctor, or therapist and cannot diagnose or prescribe. Spiritual counseling can be used on it’s own or in conjunction with other mental health support. It is also not the same thing as pastoral counseling. My ordainment is non-denominational and interfaith, which means I am not affiliated with a particular religion, and can work with anyone, regardless of their beliefs. My work is spiritual, but not religious.
Do you work with anyone?
Yes. Anyone is welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, religious or spiritual identities, as well as any mental health diagnosis.
Does my issue have to be spiritual in nature to have a session?
No. You can bring into a session whatever you feel you are needing help with. Any topic of conversation is warmly welcomed. We can talk about anything ranging from life situations and relationships, to depression and anxiety.
What do I need to do to prepare for a session and what are the expectations?
Having an intention for your session is helpful. You will need to fill out the short new client waiver when scheduling. The more authentic and vulnerable you are, the more you will get out of your session. There are not any time or financial commitments other than for one session at a time. There will be suggestions or “homework” for you to do between your sessions, but you are always at choice of what you are able to do. Your process between your sessions is just as important as the sessions themselves.
Do you accept insurance?
I can’t file with insurance, but I can accept payment through a Health Savings Account.
