Not From Here; A Spiritual Misfit’s 8 Step Guide to Finding Your Soul’s Purpose
Expected Release in Fall 2019
Over the past ten years in private practice as a spiritual counselor and healer, I have had many people come to me for guidance and healing who believe they are not from here. By saying here, yes, I mean planet Earth. These people are not crazy or psychotic. They are upstanding members of their families and their communities. They are educated and have professional careers. They are mothers, fathers, teachers, public servants, doctors, nurses, counselors, students, and entrepreneurs. They often find themselves drawn to the professions of being in service to others. They also are often interested in the healing and intuitive arts, spirituality, new age thought, and metaphysics. They are highly functioning and intelligent adults, living their lives, and appearing to be normal. They have learned how to live in our society and are doing the best they can within it, yet they often feel like they are missing something and are unhappy or unfulfilled.
Other people find their way to me because they have not learned how to live in our society. They know they are different and have an extremely difficult time functioning. These people often will be battling depression and anxiety or other mental and emotional disorders. They have a challenging time finding help that is actually helpful because the tends to be lacking in the spiritual perspective.
Despite the functionality differences in these two groups of people, I have found there is a commonality of spiritual crisis and human trauma that many of these people have that interferes with their ability to be really truly happy here.
These people often have the feeling that they were “dropped off” at a wrong location, into biological families where they don’t feel they belong. They often feel they are the “black sheep” of their families or communities. In many instances, they do not want to be here and have had painful experiences of not fitting in or conforming to the “norm”. Although they sense or know they are here for a reason, they typically do not understand what that reason is.
Some are aware they are here to help somehow. Some feel they are here to learn lessons. Others feel they are here because of a mistake they made, like a form of karmic punishment. Most are extremely empathic and sensitive. Their ability to tolerate violence, cruelty or injustice is minimal and can be very painful to them.
Most are exasperated, feel stuck here, and just want to learn whatever they are supposed to learn in this lifetime so that they do not have to come back here and do it all over again. In my experience, the discontent these people feel often comes from feeling cut off or disconnected from the reason why they are here and from their authentic selves. In other words, they have forgotten who they really are and have forgotten their mission. This book is dedicated to these people.
